Stefanos Tsitsipas celebrated the biggest success of his career so far, by becoming the first Greek player to reach the finals of the French Open.
In the Semi-Finals he defeated Alexander Zverev in 5 sets (6-3, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-3), in a match for strong nerves that exceeded 3.5 hours, Tsitsipas made history, as he became the first Greek to qualify for a final Grand Slam tournament.
The 22 year old imposed his rhythm in the first set, winning relatively easily with 6-3.
In the second, Zverev led 0-3, however Tsitsipas made an amazing turn around reeling off 6 games in a row to take a 2-0 lead.
This was followed by a counterattack by the German, who took the next two sets 6-4, turning the match into a thriller and sending the game to a fifth set, which would decide the winner.
Tsitsipas’ break in the fourth game put him in the lead, where he managed to stay until the end of the set and get the coveted ticket to the grand final. There, on Sunday, he will face the winner of today’s second semifinal, the “epic battle” between Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
