Old pedestrian route destroyed in the 2013 disaster

It is worth noting that during the devastating disaster that struck Kedarnath on June 16-17, 2013, this traditional trek route was completely destroyed. As a result, pilgrims had to travel for years using alternative routes with limited facilities. Now, the Public Works Department of Guptkashi has reconstructed this route in a phased manner. Special arrangements have also been made for safety and facilities along the pilgrimage route.

Vineet Posti, a member of the Badri Kedar Temple Committee, further stated that various arrangements are being made on the old Kedarnath route to ensure that pilgrims visiting Kedarnath temple do not face any inconvenience and that their journey is easy and safe. These arrangements are being continuously implemented on the old route.

Pilgrims will have two route options

Now, pilgrims undertaking the Kedarnath pilgrimage will have two routes available for their journey on foot. The first route is the newly reconstructed Gaurikund-Rambara-Garudchatti-Kedarnath route. The second route is the currently operational Gaurikund-Rambara-Linchauli-Kedarnath route. Due to some changes made to the route, the distance from Rambara to Kedarnath has increased from the previous 7 kilometers to 8.6 kilometers.
