An alert for rain and snowfall has been issued for many districts of Uttarakhand for today, January 28, 2026. In view of the possibility of heavy rain, a holiday has been declared on January 28th for Anganwadi centers and schools up to class 12th in many districts. All schools have been instructed to comply with the order.
A holiday has been declared for Anganwadi centers and schools up to class 12th in Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Tehri, Pithoragarh, Uttarkashi, Pauri, and Chamoli districts due to the possibility of heavy rain and snowfall on January, 28. The order states that according to the weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department, Dehradun, light to moderate rainfall is expected in some places on Wednesday, with the possibility of heavy rainfall in others.
In addition, there is a possibility of snowfall in the higher reaches, which could adversely affect the health and safety of students, especially young children. Considering the welfare and safety of the students, a holiday has been declared on January 28th for all government, government-aided, and private schools up to class 12th and all Anganwadi centers in these districts.
Orange Alert in these districts
The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert on the night of January 27th for heavy rain or snowfall in isolated areas of Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Nainital, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh districts. An orange alert has also been issued for hailstorms and winds gusting up to 40 to 50 kilometers per hour in some places in Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Haridwar, Nainital, Almora, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
