UERC to hold public hearings in 4 cities on proposed power tariff hike from February 18

The Uttarakhand Electricity Regulatory Commission (UERC) will hold public hearings in four cities across the state starting February 18th to discuss the proposed new electricity tariffs, which are scheduled to come into effect on April 1st, 2026. Two of these cities are in the Garhwal region and two in the Kumaon region. The dates for these hearings have already been finalized. The state’s three power corporations have proposed a combined increase of 18.50 percent this time.

UPCL has proposed a 16.23 percent increase, and PTCUL has proposed an increase of approximately three percent. For the first time, UJVNL’s tariff proposal is a decrease of 1.2 percent. The regulatory commission has sought suggestions from consumers and other stakeholders on all these petitions, which can be submitted until January 31st.

The commission is also going to hold public hearings in four cities this year. Last year, the commission held hearings in Dehradun and Gopeshwar in the Garhwal region and in Rudrapur and Lohaghat in the Kumaon region. This time, the public hearings will be held in Dehradun and Karnaprayag in the Garhwal region, and in Rudrapur and Munsiyari in the Kumaon region.

Any consumer can submit their suggestions or objections to the commission during these hearings. The Chairman of the Regulatory Commission, ML Prasad, stated that after the public hearings, the commission will take all the facts into consideration before making a decision on the tariff proposal. The new electricity rates will be implemented from April 1st.
