Uttarakhand monsoon assembly session: Congress staged a sit-in inside the assembly overnight

A unique incident happened on Tuesday in the 25-year history of Uttarakhand. The opposition MLAs did not come out of the assembly house as a result of the protest. The request of the Speaker of the Assembly, the ruling party and CM Dhami himself also had no effect. The opposition MLAs sitting on a protest inside the Bhararisain Assembly building in Gairsain spent the entire night in the house.
Uproar as soon as the session started
On Tuesday, August 19, 2025, the monsoon session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly started in the Bhararisain Assembly building in Gairsain. The opposition party Congress wanted to debate on the issue of law and order and the scuffle with the Leader of Opposition Yashpal Arya during the election of the District Panchayat President in Nainital. But the government started running the House as per the pre-decided schedule. On this, the Congress MLAs started a ruckus as soon as the session started. The situation reached to uprooting the mic and overturning the table.
Proceedings of the Assembly were stopped several times
Due to this, the proceedings of the Assembly had to be adjourned several times. When it became difficult to run the House at 4:15 pm on Tuesday evening, Speaker Ritu Khanduri adjourned the House till 11 am on Wednesday. When the House was adjourned, the ruling party MLAs and ministers left the House, but the opposition MLAs remained there. During this time, they continued to protest inside the House.
Protest continued overnight for the first time in Uttarakhand Assembly
This is the first time in the history of Uttarakhand Assembly that the opposition MLAs stayed inside the House to protest overnight. The MLAs ordered quilts and blankets and laid their beds in the House itself. Such protests were seen during the Uttarakhand movement. The Congress MLAs refreshed the memory of the state movement by protesting overnight in the Assembly House. Now the interesting thing will be whether the government considers the demands of the opposition on Wednesday, or even today the proceedings of the House fall prey to protests and uproar.
