Uttarakhand weather update: Fresh spell of rain and snow in the state

As the weather changed in Uttarakhand, heavy rains lashed Dehradun, the state capital, while snowfall in Kedarnath Dham and other high-altitude areas brought a severe cold wave. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the state today i.e January 27.

Since late last night, light snowfall has been occurring on the mountains surrounding Kedarnath Dham. The weather has also changed in the Jyotirmath region. The snowfall in the higher reaches has resulted in a sharp drop in temperature. On Tuesday, the weather took another turn. The sky became overcast, and snowfall began on the high peaks. Snowfall continues in Roopkund, Nanda Ghunghti, and Trishul.

The Meteorological Department has predicted severe weather conditions in Dehradun today, January 27th, 2026. According to the issued orange alert, heavy rain and snowfall, along with strong winds, are expected in the region. Considering this situation, the district administration has ordered the closure of schools in the district with immediate effect.

This order is applicable only to Dehradun district and will not affect the functioning of schools in other districts. The administration has appealed to parents to keep their children safe at home and to be alert to future weather warnings from the Meteorological Department.
