The weather in Uttarakhand is expected to change after two days. The weather will remain dry across the state today, January 19th and 20th. According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, light rain and snowfall are likely in the hilly districts from January 21st to 24th. Meanwhile, the plains may experience a drop in temperature due to fog.
On January 21st, light rain is expected in some parts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh districts. Snowfall is also likely in areas above 3400 meters. Similar conditions are expected to prevail until January 24th.
Impact of lack of rain: Dehradun’s AQI matter of concern
The lack of rain is also affecting the air quality in Dehradun. After several instances of increased AQI in December, the situation had normalized in January, but the AQI is rising again.
The main reason for the increased pollution is believed to be the elevated levels of PM 2.5 and PM 10. As per the Uttarakhand Pollution Control Board data on its website for January 16th, Dehradun’s AQI reached 207. The PM 2.5 level was 92 and the PM 10 level was 110, which falls into the alarming category.
