US President Donald Trump has announced to impose 25% extra tariff on India. He signed the executive order related to this on Wednesday. This order will come into effect after 21 days i.e. from 27 August 2025.

The executive order states that this action has been taken on India due to the purchase of Russian oil. Earlier, he had announced 25% tariff on India on 30 July. Now a total of 50% tariff will be imposed on India.

The Indian Foreign Ministry has termed this action as wrong.

The executive order reads-

“The Indian government is importing oil from Russia directly and indirectly. In such a situation, an extra tariff of 25% will be applicable on Indian goods entering the US.

However, exemption from this tariff will also be given in certain circumstances such as if any goods have already been loaded in the sea and are on the way, or if it has reached the US before a certain date.”

Earlier in March 2022, the US had issued an order completely banning the import of Russian oil and related products into its country.

Now the Trump administration has found that India is buying that Russian oil, which is helping Russia financially. Because of this, now the US has decided to impose this new tariff on India.
