World’s Happiest Country 2025: Finland tops the list for 8th consecutive year

Wellbeing Research Center, Oxford University released the World Happiness Index 2025 on 20 March i.e. World Happiness Day.
In which Finland is number one with 7.7 points. Finland has managed to retain its number 1 ranking in the World Happiness Report for the eighth consecutive year. Apart from Finland, Denmark, Iceland and Sweden remain in the top four.
In this list of 147 countries, India has been ranked 118th this time with 4.3 points. Last time India was ranked 126th in the list. In this case, India is also behind Pakistan and Nepal.
India’s position improves in the Happiness Index
India has moved up eight places in the Happiness Index compared to last year. However, Pakistan has got 109th place in the 2025 Happiness list. Nepal also remained above India, it has got 92nd place.
While Sri Lanka (133) and Bangladesh (134) are behind India. The ranking of these countries was based on the answers given by people when asked to rate their lives. This study was done by analytics firm Gallup and UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
In this list, countries like Ukraine, Mozambique, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Palestine, Congo, Uganda, Gambia and Venezuela have a better ranking than India despite being surrounded by war, political and economic issues.
India managed to make it to the top-100 only in 2022 in recent years. There are many reasons for India’s low ranking in the Happiness Index. These include inequality, lack of social support, corruption and lack of generosity, which push India back in the list of happy countries.
Nordic countries occupy the top
This report was published by the Wellbeing Research Center of Oxford University in partnership with Gallup and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network.
In this survey, people from 147 countries were asked how happy they are? To measure happiness in society, questions were asked on different factors including health, wealth, freedom, generosity and freedom from corruption and their answers were evaluated.
Gallup CEO John Clifton said, “Happiness is not just about money or growth. It is about trust, connection and knowing that people will always support you. If we want strong societies and economies, we should invest in what really matters, that is, in each other. “
America has reached its lowest ever position in the ranking of happy people. European countries dominate the top 20 in the ranking.
Despite the war with Hamas, Israel is in eighth place. Costa Rica and Mexico entered the top 10 of happy countries for the first time, they are at sixth and 10th place respectively.
America has reached its lowest ever position in this ranking at number 24. Earlier in 2012, it was at 11th place.
