UEFA postpones Euro Cup 2020 by 1 year

UEFA has postponed the Euro Cup to be held in June and July this year by 2021. The decision was taken after an emergency meeting of the governing body of European football held in Lausanne, Switzerland on Tuesday. The tournament may take place between 11 June and 11 July next year. However, this date is not final. It will be stamped after the schedule of the club and international championships. Euro 2020 was to be held from 12 June to 12 July this year.

After the meeting, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said that we are standing at such a point when thousands of people are lost due to coronavirus. At this time, the football community has to show responsibility and unity.

Champions League and Europa League will be finished on time

After postponing the Euro Cup, the UEFA Champions League and Europa League will be completed on time. However, this is possible only when the travel ban imposed in European countries is lifted. At the moment, Europe remains the new center of the coronavirus. It was here that the first match of Euro-2020 was to be played. In Italy alone, more than 2100 people have died so far. France has also decided to lockdown after Italy and Spain. This number is the highest after China.

Euro Cup matches in 12 countries

According to the information, there is no change in the format of the championship. TRhe tournament was to be played in 12 cities of Europe viz. Amsterdam, Baku, Bilbao, Budapest, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Glasgow, London, Munich, Rome and St. Petersburg. At the same time, the semi-finals and finals are to be held in London. Out of the 24 teams participating in this tournament, 20 have already qualified. The remaining 4 teams will be known after the playoffs. The matches were due later this month, but were also temporarily canceled due to coronaviruse.

Champions League matches postponed due to Covid-19

All football matches in England have already been postponed until 4 April due to the Covid-19 pandemic.  The German Football League is also not having matches, while UEFA has canceled the Champions League and Europa League matches this week. Paraguay, Colombia, Chile, France, Spain, England, Denmark, Norway, Poland, America, Holland, China have postponed their football matches.

Japan Olympic Committee Deputy Chief Tashima Corona in grip

Kozo Tashima, deputy head of the Olympic Committee of Japan, has also been found to be coronavirus positive. According to the news agency, Tashima visited the UK, Holland, Ireland and the US in February, after which he has been infected with the virus. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe recently said that the Olympic Games will be held on schedule. But questions are being raised about the organization of these games after Tashima became infected.
