Vandana Katariya to be conferred Arjuna Award

Hockey star Vandana Katariya, who performed brilliantly in the Tokyo Olympics, will be honored with the Arjuna Award on the recommendation of Hockey India. She has been selected for the award in the Sports Ministry. Varun Belwal, Deputy District Sports Officer, Haridwar has confirmed this. Her brother Pankaj Katariya told that he is very happy with Vandana getting the Arjuna Award. A special welcome will be given when Vandana comes home.

Wave of happiness in the family

Since the announcement of Arjuna Award for Vandana, there is a wave of happiness among the family as well as sports officials and sports lovers. Vandana Katariya’s family members expressed their happiness by distributing sweets. The family says that it is a Diwali gift for them.

Historic hat-trick at Olympics

Indian women’s hockey team player Vandana Katariya, resident of Roshanabad area in Haridwar, created history by scoring a hat-trick in the match against South Africa in the Tokyo Olympics. She become the first Indian female hockey player to do so. After this, she became a star overnight. On returning to Haridwar, people gave her a warm welcome. The state government had declared her as the brand ambassador of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’. Apart from this, she was given a cash prize of 25 lakhs.
