Somvati Amavasya: Traffic plan issued for Haridwar

The police has released the route plan in Haridwar for the Somvati Amavasya bath to be held on Monday. Entry of heavy vehicles in the city will be restricted from 12 o’clock on Sunday night till Monday. SSP Pramendra Singh Dobal has given necessary directions to the officers.

SP Traffic Pankaj Gairola said, the route plan has been issued regarding Somvati Snan. Routes and parking places have been decided for vehicles coming from many states. Vehicles coming for bathing from Delhi, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar will come to Haridwar via Narsan, Mangalore, COER University, Khyati Dhaba, Gurukul Kangri, Shankaracharya Chowk.

Tourist buses, tractor-trolleys coming from Delhi will be parked at Rishikul Ground, Hariram Inter College. Small vehicles coming from Najibabad, UP will be parked at Deendayal, Pantdweep via Chidiyapur, Shyampur, Chandi Chowki, Chandi Chowk. Vehicles coming from Dehradun-Rishikesh will be sent to Motichur parking from Nepali Farm, Raiwala, Dudhadhari Tiraha.

In the meeting, SSP Pramendra Dobal informed that the entire fair area has been divided into five super zones, 16 zones and 39 sectors for police arrangements. SP City Swatantra Kumar Singh has been made the nodal officer of Snan Parv. The first Somvati Amavasya bathing festival of the year is on Monday.

Apart from Uttarakhand, lakhs of devotees from states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal and Rajasthan etc. are likely to reach Haridwar. When such a large number of devotees reach Haridwar for a dip in the holy waters of Ganga, the police have made elaborate arrangements to ensure security and smooth traffic system.

On Saturday, ADGP AP Anshuman and IG Garhwal Karan Singh Nagnyal reached Fair Control Room and CCR to test the preparations and plans. In the meeting, SSP Pramendra Dobal drew a blueprint for traffic and crowd control during the festival and discussed the backup plan.
