Dehradun to Pithoragarh flight fare fixed at Rs 4000

Now fly from Doon to Pithoragarh in 40 minutes

Uttarakhand will finally make the much-awaited foray into the field of low-cost flight. The first nine-seater fixed-wing aircraft will take off from the state capital’s Jolly Grant airport for Pithoragarh airport on Thursday.

The lost-cost flights will also operate between Dehradun and Chilyanisor, in Uttarkashi district which is over 170 km away. Secretary, Civil Aviation, R Meenakshi Sundaram said that the plans are afoot to add ten more routes in a phased manner to offer air connectivity between Garhwal and Kumaon regions.

“The trial operation was successful on the Dehradun-Pithoragarh route on Tuesday,” said Sundaram.

By road the distance between Dehradun and Pithoragarh is nearly 500 kms. However, the hill capital is 220-km away (aerially) from Pithoragarh in Kumaon. By flight, people will cover this distance in 40 minutes. It will take only 15 minutes to cover the distance between Dehradun to Chilyanisor. On road, it takes over five hours to reach Chilyanisor from the state capital.

The fare for the Dehradun-Pithoragarh flight has been fixed at Rs 4,000, while on Dehradun-Chilyanisor route it will be Rs 3,000, Sundaram said.

The plan of regional air connectivity had run into rough weather when some local operators approached the high court alleging that the state government was favouring a particular firm.
The court had asked the government to keep in view the criteria of experience, security and other important aspects while awarding the contract.
