TS Rawat resigns as Uttarakhand Chief Minister

Amidst high political volatility in Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat submitted his resignation as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand to governor Baby Rani Maurya. As per sources, the decision comes after speculations where rife that the BJP think tank had received reports of some MLA’s being unhappy with the TS Rawat led state government.

Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat reached Delhi on Monday morning on the call of the central leadership amid speculation of a change of leadership in Uttarakhand. In the evening in Delhi, he met the national president of his party, JP Nadda. Apart from this, the Chief Minister also visited the residence of BJP’s national media chief and Rajya Sabha member Anil Baluni.

Another CM unable to fulfill tenure

Ever since the state of Uttarakhand was carved out of Uttar Pradesh only one has a chief minister been able to complete a tenure of 5 years in office. Late N.D Tiwari was the head of the state from 2002 to 2007. The tenure of Trivendra Singh Rawat as Chief Minister lasted just short of 4 years.

In a press conference held after submitting his resignation, he said that “for four years in the party gave me an opportunity to serve Uttarakhand. BJP is the only party that gives opportunity to the leaders associated with ground level. Four days are left in the completion of the four-year term. But now the party needs a new face. The government has run many welfare schemes in four years time, which will definitely benefit the public. At the same time, he gave best wishes to the new CM of the state.”

Who will be the chief minister of Uttarakhand?

In the current Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, then the total number of MLAs here is 70. Of which BJP has 56 MLAs, Congress has 11 and 2 MLAs are Independents. While one seat is still vacant, the BJP has no threat on the government’s support front, but the ongoing rage in the party is a matter of crisis for them.

BJP convened legislature party meeting

The Bharatiya Janata Party has called a meeting of all the party MLAs of Uttarakhand, in which the name of the new Chief Minister of the state can be stamped. There will likely be a meeting of the BJP Legislature Party in Dehradun at 11 am on Wednesday. Raman Singh and Dushyant Gautam will be sent to Dehradun on behalf of the party as observers.
