Damage due to rains in Uttarakhand estimated at Rs 1000 crore

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Uttarakhand has so far suffered a loss of Rs 1000 crore due to natural calamities during monsoon. In the preliminary assessment, from June 15 till now, a loss of one thousand crore rupees is estimated due to the disaster. In this too, the monsoon has hurt the roads the most. In Haridwar district, 21 thousand hectares of sugarcane crop got damaged due to flood and waterlogging. Roads and bridges have been heavily damaged. The Chief Minister was speaking at a media interaction in New Delhi.

The CM said that the monsoon is active now. After the rains recede, work will start on a war footing to restore the roads. He said that the state government is not bringing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) to target anyone. The government got the mandate on this in the last assembly elections.

The committee constituted under the chairmanship of Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai has prepared the draft. As soon as the draft is submitted to the government, the government will bring it in the assembly and move towards implementing the UCC. He said we are introducing UCC for the safety and empowerment of women.

Encroachment removal campaign not yet completed

The CM said that the government has removed encroachment from 2700 acres of government land under an intensive campaign. This campaign is not over yet. On the question of targeting a particular class, the CM raised a counter question, is encroachment on government land justified? People went to the High Court, but the court also accepted the government’s campaign as correct.
