Lok Sabha elections 2024: 55.89 percent polling in Uttarakhand

Voting for the 18th Lok Sabha was completed peacefully on Friday in all five seats of Uttarakhand, barring a few sporadic incidents. 55.89 percent voters in the state exercised their franchise. These voting figures released by the Election Commission are till 10 pm. This is about seven percent less than the last Lok Sabha elections.

The highest turnout was 61.5 percent in Udham Singh Nagar district and the lowest was 40.87 percent in Almora. With this the fate of 55 candidates was decided in EVMs. These include BJP’s national media chief Anil Baluni, Union Minister of State Ajay Bhatt, former Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta, former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, former Congress state president Ganesh Godiyal, former MP Pradeep Tamta and senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister Harish Rawat’s son Virendra Rawat.

Governor Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh voted in Dehradun and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Khatima. However, even after 5 pm, there were queues of voters in many polling stations. In such a situation, voting is likely to increase by two to three percent. According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, the true picture of voting percentage will be revealed only on Saturday.

At some booths in Nainital, Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Pauri, Almora and Pithoragarh districts, villagers kept away from voting, showing their displeasure over non-resolution of their problems.
