Stone pelting incident reported in New Delhi on Hanuman Janmotsav procession

In the Jahangirpuri area of ​​​​the capital Delhi, there was communal violence incident reported on Saturday evening. Many people, including a policeman, were injured in stone pelting during the Shobha Yatra during Hanuman Janmotsav. The injured have been admitted to Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital in Jahangirpuri for treatment. At the same time, the police say that the situation in the area is currently under control.

DCP Anweis Rai, who is looking after the work of Public Relations Officer in Delhi Police, said that there has been a ruckus during the procession in Jahangirpuri. He said, “Stone pelting and sporadic arson have come to the fore on the people going on in Hanuman Jayanti procession. All our top officials are on the spot. The situation is under control and in view of the gravity of the matter, additional forces have been deployed in the area.”

He said that the policemen who got hurt during stone pelting are being identified. In view of the incidents of arson, 2 vehicles of Delhi Fire Service also reached the spot. However, Delhi Fire Service director Atul Garg said that the incidents were quite sporadic, so the operation has been called off there and the vehicles have been recalled.

According to the police, stones were pelted on the procession of Hanuman Janmotsav at around 7.45 pm on Saturday evening near Kushal Cinema. The miscreants also started arson after stone pelting here. After this, people gathered on the spot from both sides vandalized many vehicles and also set some vehicles and shops were set on fire. Not only this, swords and sticks were also distributed among the miscreants. In the incident, more than a dozen people from both the sides including policemen were injured. The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

Special CP Law and Order Dipendra Pathak, who was present at the spot, said, “Our first priority is to control the situation and we are doing that. There is a police force and everything is under control.” He said that in connection with this incident, Delhi Police is registering a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and about 10 teams have been deployed in search of miscreants.
