The debris coming from the drains including erosion of the hills o fNainitali is spoiling the health of Naini Lake. A research study by Kumaon University has revealed that an average of one centimeter of silt from the hills is seeping into the Naini Lake every year. For the last 140 years, about 130 cm of soil has been deposited in the lake. According to research, Naini lake has 30 times more debris than Bhimtal lake every year. The research recommends a strict ban on the construction of concrete roads and roads for this. In 2016, the water level of the lake fell significantly due to which islands emerged in the lake.

Then on May 3, 2016, Kumaon University geologist Prof. Bahadur Singh Kotlia excavated the JCB near the Tallital Army Holiday Home for the purpose of research study. Prof. Kotlia described the findings as extremely shocking after examining the samples. Explaining the findings of the research study, it was said that up to 20 meters of soil has been deposited in the foothills of Naini Lake, built 50 thousand years ago. In other lakes, 30 cm of silt is filled in a thousand years, while in Naini lake, one cm is filling silt in a year. The impact of landslide was till Tallital

According to Prof. Kotlia, the landslide in the hills of Alma Lodge of 1880 had a tremendous impact in the Tallital region as well. He said that to maintain the existence of the lake, construction of concrete paths in Nainital would have to be completely stopped. Due to CC route, rain water is flowing in vain.
