Exam necessary for degree after completing MBBS

The Union Cabinet gave its approval to the new National Medical Commission Bill-2013, which replaced the Medical Education Regulatory Medical Council of India, which has already been dissolved. In the new law the provision of exit test is being done to ensure the quality of the doctors. After completing the MBBS course, a Common Examination of the National Exit Test (NEXT) has been made in the final year. After passing this examination, doctors will get the license to do a medical practice. Secondly, the PG students will get admission only on the basis of next examination. Apart from this, students who do MBBS from abroad will also have to take the same examination instead of FMGE.

NEXT will work as NEET PG entrance

While giving information about Cabinet decisions, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the central cabinet has given its approval to the National Medical Commission Bill, In the fourth year of MBBS, a common exchender provision has been made at the national level. Its name will be the National Exit Test. This Exam will also work with NEET PG. Based on its marks, students will get admission in PG courses. Apart from this, students completing MBBS from abroad will also have to take the same examination for screening. It has been proposed to bring all national importance institutions, including AIIMS, into the realm of neutral and common counseling.

In the Bill, the government has been empowered to fix fee for 50 per cent seats of private and deemed medical colleges. The proposed commission will consist of four autonomous boards undergraduate medical education board, postgraduate medical education board, medical assessment and rating board and ethics and medical registration board. It is known that this bill, prepared during the previous tenure of the Modi government, an exit exam had been proposed after completion of MBBS. However, the Parliamentary Committee had suggested for the state level examination in the fourth year in place of its Exit exam.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that the central cabinet has approved NMC in place of MCI.He said, ” I express my gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing significant reforms in medical education.”
