ORGANISED BY FRI, DEHRADUN AND COAST GUARD, MINISTRY OF DEFENCE NEW DELHI (12th to 16th Jan 2015)
Forest Research Institute, Dehradun is organizing a training programme for Commandants of Indian Coast Guard from 12-16 Jan 2015. The topic of training is “Conservation and Management of Coastal Ecosystems “. The basic purpose of the training is to sensitize the officers of coast guard aware with the marine ecosystems and marine protected areas and their management in India. Eminent faculties from various institutes like Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, India Gandhi National Forest Academy, National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, TRAFFIC office, New Delhi, Indian Metrological Dept, Dehradun etc. have interacted with participants on coastal areas issues viz. use of remote sensing in coastal ecosystem management, use of advance techniques in monitoring and vigilance along ecological sensitive areas of coastal zones, floral diversity of mangroves, coastal disastrous and protection and management of coastal protected areas. The training is attended by the participants from five different regions throughout India. The training was inaugurated by Dr. P.P. Bhojvaid, Director, FRI. He advised participants to learn about coastal ecosystem and structures by interacting with renowned faculty from eminent institutions. The course director of the training Shri Kunal Satyarthi, Head, Silviculture Division emphasized on protection and management of coastal ecosystems and livelihood for the poor people living in coastal areas. Shri V.K. Dhawan, Research Officer, FRI has coordinated the training program. Twelve commandants from Indian Coast Gourd have participated in this training programme.
