RBI extends deadline for exchanging Rs 2000 notes

If you still have a Rs 2,000 note, there is another chance to exchange it and deposit it in your account. The last date for exchanging Rs 2,000 notes and depositing it in your account has been extended till October 7 by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

After this, the Rs 2,000 note will neither be deposited nor exchanged in any bank. Earlier this date was fixed as 30 September. LDM Sanjay Bhatia said, RBI has extended the date for exchanging Rs 2,000 note and depositing it in the account to October 7.

After this, notes will be exchanged and deposited only in the regional offices of RBI. For this, nine regional offices across the country have been selected. As per data, 96 percent such notes from across the country have reached RBI. The date has been extended for only four percent of the remaining notes.

On May 19 this year, RBI had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 note from circulation. After this, people deposited Rs 2,000 notes in banks and also got them returned. However, except in the initial days, there was not much crowd in the banks during this period. On Saturday, there was no demonetization like situation regarding currency exchange in any bank of the city.
