Newly elected state BJP president Ajay Bhatt will continue to perform the role of the Leader of the Opposition for the Assembly Budget session starting tomorrow.
After his elevation as president of the Uttarakhand BJP, it was assumed that Ajay Bhatt would be stripped of the responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition and a new leader would be nominated.
But due to bickering among senior party leaders, no consensus could be reached forcing the senior leadership in Delhi to resort to status quo.
Bhatt told mediapersons here today that the process to nominate a new Leader of the Opposition could not take place due to the ongoing Parliament session. “The observers nominated by the BJP central leadership to elect a new leader were unable to come to Dehradun due to the ongoing Parliament session. Hence, I have been asked to continue with the responsibility for the Assembly session,” he said.
Bhatt denied there was infighting in the state BJP for the post. He said it was the Congress that was suffering due to infighting as reflected in paralysed governance in the state.
Meanwhile, BS Chuphal and Madan Kaushik, who were said to be in the race for the post, also denied there was infighting in the party for the post.
