Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023 concludes; Madhya Pradesh wins overall championship

The four-day ‘Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023’ organized at ITBP Campus, Tehri Garhwal, concluded on Sunday with colorful programs and melodious military tunes presented by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force. Cabinet Minister Satpal Maharaj participated in the closing ceremony and congratulated everyone. On this occasion, the participants of the winning and runner-up teams were honored by Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj by giving them trophies. Madhya Pradesh was the overall champion by winning 14 gold, 07 silver and 08 bronze in ‘Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023’.

On this occasion, Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said that ‘there is immense potential for water sports in the huge Tehri reservoir. The fruits of the penance of Tehri displaced people are coming true, THDC is actively working in the development of Tehri’. He said that compensation should be distributed to the Tehri Lake affected people as soon as possible, there should not be any negligence in this. The minister added that many circuits are being made to promote tourism in the state, reservoirs are being fully utilized, due to which tourists are turning towards Uttarakhand. Many adventure sports activities should also be organised, facilities should be provided in home stays as per the tourists coming from India and abroad so that more and more tourists reach here.

Open National Canoeing Sprint Senior Men’s and Women’s Championships and Qualifier events were held at Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023 from September 14 to September 17, 2023. 450 players from 22 states of the country participated in these competitions. In the Tehri Water Sports Cup, among men, Service Sports Control Board (SSCB) was the winner by getting 11 gold, 03 silver and 04 bronze, while Madhya Pradesh was the runner up by getting 05 gold, 04 silver and 03 bronze. Among women, Madhya Pradesh was the winner by getting 09 gold, 03 silver and 05 bronze, while Orissa was the runner up by getting 06 gold and 05 bronze. Madhya Pradesh won the Overall Championship, the winner and runner-up players will now participate in the 37th National Games Goa-2023.

Earlier, Executive Director Tehri Complex L.P. Joshi said a high level academy is being set up in Koti Colony, in which free food, training, accommodation, medical facilities and school services will be provided to talented athletes in the age group of 13 to 17 years. With this, they will be able to perform well in national and international level sports. Along with this, 10 percent quota will be reserved in the Koteshwar Dam complex, regional, national and international athletes will be trained in the academy by national and international coaches with scientific facilities. With this, players from India and abroad will be able to benefit from mutual training and technical expertise. This initiative will not only prepare our state and national athletes for international competitions but will also provide employment opportunities and tourism benefits to the local people.

On Sunday, the fourth day of the four-day ‘Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023’, the final competitions of canoe sprint in the distance of 200 meters were held. In the men’s event K-1, SSCB stood first, Orissa second, Rajasthan stood third, while in the women’s event C-1, Maharashtra stood first, SSCB second, Madhya Pradesh stood third. In the women’s event K-4, Madhya Pradesh stood first, Kerala second, while Orissa was in the third place. In men’s event K-2, Madhya Pradesh stood first, Delhi second, Manipur third, while in women’s event C-1, Uttarakhand stood first, Kerala second, Uttar Pradesh third. In men’s event C-2, Delhi stood first, SSCB stood second, Uttarakhand stood third. In the women’s event K-1, Madhya Pradesh stood first, Kerala second, Orissa third, while in the women’s event K-2, Orissa stood first, Haryana second, Kerala third. In women’s event C-2, Uttarakhand stood first, Delhi second, Manipur third. In men’s event K-4, Orissa stood first, SSCB second, Uttarakhand third, while in men’s event C-4, SSCB stood first, Kerala second, Jammu and Kashmir stood third.
