Businessman with mining links murdered in Nainital

A 35-year-old businessman was shot dead by unidentified men in Ramnagar town of Nainital on Tuesday night. Hemant Fartyal was involved in mining business and the police suspect that he may have been killed due to the trade rivalry.

“The case is being probed and we have detained some persons for questioning,” said Swatantra Kumar, circle officer of Ramnagar police station.

According to the police, after completing the day’s work Fartyal consumed liquor with his four friends on Tuesday evening. Later, at around 9pm, he drove to Lakhanpur to drop one of his friends. Fartyal was shot while he was returning from Lakhanpur.

He was found seriously injured near Kosi Bairaj area at around 9.30pm by locals, police said. The locals rushed to the spot after hearing the gun shots and rushed the businessman to a hospital. However, Fartyal succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.

Locals suspect that Fartyal may have been killed due to rivalry over the illegal mining trade.
