NHAI invites bids for Delhi-Mumbai highway development

The distance from Delhi to Mumbai is about 1400 kilometers and it takes 18 to 20 hours to travel the two metros. But the government is pushing the construction work of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway very fast. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has invited bids to build the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The authority has called for applications from private players as part of the bidding process.

According to the information, NHAI will issue 3 stretches / packages from Delhi to DND flyway to Sohna. For the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project, NHAI has invited applications for the first package from the DND flyway of Delhi to Ballabgarh as part of the bidding process.

As per the plan, work on Ballabhgarh stretch from DND flyway will start from February 2021 and the target is to complete it by May-June 2023.

For the second package, NHAI has invited bids for construction of 25 km expressway from Jaitpur to Ballabgarh. While NHAI will start the bidding process this week for the third package of 26 km stretch from Ballabgarh to Sohna.

1 lakh crore cost

The idea of creating a smart city on the side of this highway is also being considered. According to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the final decision on this will be taken by the Finance Ministry and the PMO. In April, the Union Minister had informed that the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway project will cost about Rs 1 lakh crore. After this project, the distance from Delhi to Mumbai can be fixed in just 12 hours.

According to Gadkari, the government has saved about Rs 16,000 crore on the land acquisition front alone on this project. It can now be linked to the under developed and remote areas of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan.
