Rift emerges in BJP after assembly elections voting conclude

The rift  in the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state has come to the fore after the assembly elections voting in Uttarakhand were over. Opening a front against State BJP President Madan Kaushik, BJP MLA from Laksar seat, Sanjay Gupta has demanded the party to take strict action against him.

MLA Sanjay Gupta alleged that Uttarakhand BJP president Madan Kaushik worked against several BJP candidates to ensure the party’s defeat in this election. Gupta said that ‘Kaushik supported the BSP candidate contesting against me. He is a traitor. I demand the BJP leadership to sack him from the party.’

 

At the same time, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that ‘people in Uttarakhand have created history by voting in large numbers. I hope that the new government will work for the bright future of Uttarakhand.’

More than 65 percent voting in Uttarakhand assembly elections

More than 65 per cent turnout was recorded in the elections held on Monday for all 70 assembly seats in Uttarakhand where the fate of 632 candidates was sealed in EVMs.

Sowjanya, Chief Electoral Officer, Uttarakhand said that polling was peaceful in all 11697 polling stations in the state and 65.1 percent voters exercised their franchise. However, she said that this polling percentage figures may be revised after the final tally.
