ASI’s hand gets cut-off in police-nihang clash in Punjab

While the country is fighting the havoc of Corona, the Nihangs Sikh reportedly attacked the police in Patiala, Punjab and completely cut off the hand of a policeman. The Nihang attacked the police at the main gate outside the vegetable market on Sunday morning. Other policemen were also injured in the attack.

Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta said that ASI Harjeet Singh’s hand was cut off in the attack. After this, he has been admitted to Chandigarh PGI. Several other policemen and Mandi Board officials have been injured in the attack. Police have arrested seven people in this case.

Clash began over showing of curfew pass

Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said, “They were asked to show the (curfew) pass, but they hit the barriers and blockers installed there from their car.” He said that after this, these people attacked the policemen on duty.

 

ADGP reached the spot

Sidhu said, ‘The hand of an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) was cut off with a sword. Patiala Sadar police station in-charge has suffered an elbow injury while another police officer has also suffered an arm attack. ASI was taken to Rajendra Hospital from where he was referred to PGIMER Chandigarh.

The SSP said that Nihang fled the spot after the attack. Efforts are being made for his arrest. This incident occurred when restrictions are in force in the state in view of the outbreak of Coronavirus. ADGP Rakesh Chandra and Commando Force have also reached the spot.

Injured Nihang admitted in hospital

Punjab’s Special Chief Secretary KBS Sidhu said that 7 Nihangs have been arrested from the Gurudwara in Balbera. One of them was injured in police firing and has been taken to hospital. The entire operation is under the supervision of IG Patiala Zone Jatinder Singh Aulakh. On the other hand, plastic surgery of the injured ASI Harjit Singh has been started and a case has been registered against the accused for attempted murder.
