Apple agrees to pay $500 million for settling ‘phone slowdown’ lawsuits

Apple will pay users $ 500 million (Rs 3,600 crore) to settle the cases of intentionally slowing down the old iPhone. This information came out in documents filed in San Jose district court. According to this, all the affected users of America will be given $ 25 each. However, depending on the number of claims and the amount of court-approved legal expenses, the amount received by users may be more or less. The court may approve the settlement on 3 April.

After the displeasure of the user and the tech analyst, Apple accepted the mistake

American customers who bought the iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6Splus, iPhone 7, 7 Plus or SE before December 21, 2017 and had made claims that their phones had slowed down. Many Apple users and tech analysts complained in December 2017 that their iPhone slowed down after software updates. They said that Apple did this intentionally so that people were forced to buy the latest iPhone.

Apple’s revenue was reduced due to low price battery replacement

After customers’ displeasure, Apple admitted that it had slowed down the old iPhone through software updates. However, the company clarified that it did so because of a problem with the old lithium-ion battery. Later, the apologized and gave a battery replacement for $ 79. The next month itself, in January 2018, the price of the battery was reduced to just $ 29. Apple CEO Tim Cook said last year that the company’s revenue was affected in 2018 by a reduction in prices to replace iPhone batteries.

iPhones become expensive up to Rs 1,300 in India

The government announced in the budget to increase custom duty and social welfare surcharge on imported mobile phone-chargers. Other companies, including Apple, are putting the burden on customers. Apple has increased the prices of iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 8 in India from Monday. The prices of the iPhone 11 Pro series have increased by about Rs 1,300. The iPhone 11 Promax 64 GB will now be available for Rs 1,11,200. The 256 GB model has been priced at Rs 1,25,200 while 512 GB has been priced at Rs 1,43,200. Earlier the initial price of iPhone 11 Promax was Rs 1,09,900. The price of the iPhone 8 has been increased by Rs 700.

iPhone XR, iPhone 7 rates unchanged

The company is producing these models in India only. Therefore, their prices were not increased. iPhone 11, iPad, Apple Watch and Mac desktop have also not changed the rate.
