Max Verstappen wins rain-hit Japanese GP, wins second F1 title

Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen won his second Formula One championship as he won the Japanese GP race again at Suzuka after Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was given a five second penalty. A dramatic late penalty for Leclerc helped Verstappen win the race and secure his second title. The 25 year old racerhas won his seocnd F1 title with final four races remaining in the season. He has a huge lead over his rivals Perez and Leclerc, leading with 366 points while Perez, Leclerc have 253 and 252 points respectively. This confirms Verstappen’s status as the current season’s champion.

Verstappen has won 12 of 18 races in 2022 and thanked his team for an “incredible” year.

“The first (championship) is a little more emotional, the second one is beautiful,” he said. Verstappen had won the title in 2021 as well defeating 7 time world champion Lewis Hamilton in a thrilling final race of the season.
