Uttarakhand weather: Snowfall in higher regions to increase cold in next 2 days

Yamunotri Dham has received the first snowfall of the season. Whereas, light snowfall continues in Hemkund Sahib as well as other Dhams. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be snowfall on the peaks and light rain at the Chardham Yatra stops for the next two days.

Monsoon departed from Uttarakhand on 15 October

Monsoon departed from Uttarakhand on October 15, about two weeks late than normal. Monsoon rainfall in the state was slightly above normal during this period. However, now the sky is clear in most areas of the state. But, the process of snowfall has started in the mountainous areas.

The peaks of Kedarnath have been snowing intermittently for the past two weeks. Apart from this, snowfall also occurred in Gangotri, Yamunotri on Tuesday. Light rain was also recorded at isolated places in the higher reaches.

Snowfall in Pithoragarh district’s peaks and Adi Kailas region

In the Kumaon division, the peaks of the Pithoragarh district and the Adi Kailas region received snowfall and thunderstorms in Champawat. This has increased the chill in the high altitude areas. Director of Meteorological Center Bikram Singh said that the sequence of snowfall will continue on the higher peaks of the Himalayas.

Weather likely to remain dry in low-lying areas

Light rain may occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh for the next two days in the state. Snowfall can occur in areas above 3500 meters. The weather is likely to remain dry in the low lying areas.
