Simona Halep defeats Serena Williams to win first Wimbledon title

Simona Halep of Romania has won the women’s singles title of Wimbledon by defeating America’s Serena Williams. Halep, who won her second Grand Slam and the first title in Wimbledon, denied Serena an eighth title at the All England Club.

Halep beat Serena 6-2, 6-2 in the finals of the third Grand Slam tournament of the year played at the Center Court on Saturday. Before that, she had won the French Open in 2018. She reached the final of Wimbledon for the first time and was successful in overcoming Serena.

Along with this defeat, Serena missed the record of tying Margaret Court’s most 24 Grand Slam singles titles. In the case of winning most Grand Slam titles, Steffi Graf is at number three with 22 Grand Slam titles recorded. Roger Federer who will take on Novak Djokovic in the final on Sunday is the men’s all time Grand Slam winner leader with 20 titles against his name.
