Boat carrying over 50 people capsizes in Godavari river

Eleven people were killed when a boat capsized on Sunday afternoon in the Godavari river near Devipatnam in Andhra Pradesh. There were a total of 62 people, including crew members. East Godavari SP Adnan Naeem said that 28 people are still missing after the incident, 23 people have been rescued.

According to the officials of the Relief and Rehabilitation Department, two NDRF teams have been sent to the spot, each team having 30 members. Most of the people who were aboard the Royal Vishishta were all tourists who were going to Papikondalu. It is a famous tourist spot near Rajahmundry.

PM Modi expressed grief over the incident

On the other hand, PM Modi expressed grief over the boat accident in Godavari river. He said that his condolences are with the victim families. Relief work is going on at the accident site.

A helicopter has also been dispatched to ascertain the whereabouts of the boat. The Godavari river has been flooded once again due to heavy rains for the last one week.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is reviewing the situation. He has directed local ministers and MLAs to supervise relief operations. Two boats of the Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department have been sent to the spot.

The Chief Minister has ordered to cancel the licenses of all the boats running in the Godavari river. He asked the officials to conduct a thorough examination of all the boats running the river.
