As the whole world grapples with Coronavirus, Europe and America are most severely affected by the unseen killer. Several strict steps are being taken to combat the epidemic. Cities world wide are being locked down in wake of this never before seen epidemic. About 40 million population of California province of America has been asked to stay indoors. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio has called for the Army to be deployed after a sharp increase in Corona’s number of patients. Italy, the worst hit by the virus outbreak after China, has closed its ports for overseas cruises. The lockdown period has also been extended to the next month.
There have been more deaths in Italy than China. Whereas in the whole world, the death toll has crossed ten thousand. California has been locked down since Thursday evening. New York Mayor Blasio said the entire city is reeling from the epidemic. The army should be deployed to face the crisis. There have been 3,615 cases in New York alone. Traffic from neighboring country Mexico to the US has also been curbed.
Americans traveling abroad have been warned that if they do not return immediately, they will remain outside indefinitely. In the European country, France is also preparing to extend the lockdown period. The British Prime Minister has also said that strict steps can be taken to combat the coronvirus. Argentina’s President Alberto Fernandes has also announced a lockdown until 31 March. Along with all the famous beaches in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, restaurants and bars have also been closed for 15 days.
UN Secretary General warns of catastrophic effect
United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned that the corona virus may have a catastrophic effect. He said, if we let it spread like a fire in the forests, then millions of people will die.
Death toll in Spain crosses one thousand
The Spanish Ministry of Health said that the number of deaths due to coronavirus in the country increased to 1,002. During the last 24 hours, 235 people died. While the number of victims has increased to 19,980 with 2833 new cases. The city of Madrid is the most affected by Corona in the country. 7165 cases have been reported in this city itself.
Curfew warning in Germany
Germany’s health authorities warn that curfew can be imposed if 8.3 million citizens of the country do not adopt preventive measures. So far 13,959 cases have been confirmed in Germany.
One day self isolation in India
On March 19 in a televised address to the nation, PM Narendra Modi asked the citizens to remain at home on Sunday, March 22 as part of Janata curfew. Pune, Chinchwad-Pimpri and Nagpur cities, including Mumbai, have been closed in Maharashtra. Only essential services (banks, vegetable and drug shops) will continue. At the same time, all the malls in Delhi have been ordered to be closed. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that local trains, buses would ply, stopping public vehicles in Mumbai would be the last step.
