First Grand Slam QF in 16 years without any one from the Big Three

Serbia’s world number-1 tennis player Novak Djokovic, Switzerland’s Roger Federer and Spain’s Rafael Nadal are identified as the Big Three of tennis. But it happened for the first time in 16 years, when no one from the Big Three will appear in the quarter-finals of any Grand Slam. Earlier, the trio did not play quarter finals at the 2004 French Open. Federer was then defeated by Gustavo Kuerten in the third round.

Now it happened at the US Open. Defending champion Nadal did not play the tournament this year due to Corona and due to an injury and 5 time Champion Roger Federer, closed his 2020 season as he recuperates from knee surgery. In their absence, Djokovic was considered a strong contender to win the 18th Grand Slam title. But he was forced out of the tournament after inadvertently hitting a ball to a line judge. In such a situation, the question is arising whether the Big Three phase in tennis is over and can the Next Gen finally live up to their billing.
