Tokyo Olympics 2020 concludes with closing ceremony

The Tokyo Olympics were successfully held despite the challenges of the Corona pandemic. The event which started on 23 July has come to an end. International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach formally announced the conclusion of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Now the next Olympics will be held in Paris in 2024. Around 11,000 athletes took part in 339 events in Tokyo.

Bajrang Punia was the flag bearer of India in the closing ceremony. India finished 48th in this Olympics with 7 medals, which is its best performance in Olympic history. Neeraj Chopra won gold in javelin throw for India, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and wrestler Ravi Dahiya won silver. While shuttler PV Sindhu, wrestler Bajrang Punia, boxer Lovlina Borgohain and men’s hockey team won the bronze medal.

Fireworks at the beginning of the closing ceremony

The closing ceremony started with fireworks. After this the flag of the host Japan was brought on the stage. After this the flags of all the countries appeared in a circle in the stadium. Gradually, athletes also started coming to the stadium. It was a spectacular sight, not just for the Indians, but it won the hearts of all the people of the world. The players whose events were held today were also given medals.

The Olympic flag was hoisted at the Eiffel Tower

At the closing ceremony, Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike and IOC President Thomas Bach handed over the Olympic flag to Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo. The next 2024 Paris Olympics is to be held in Paris itself. During this, the Olympic flag was also hoisted on the Eiffel Tower.

The national flag of France was unfurled

The French national flag was hoisted in the stadium after the presentation of the French national anthem in the closing ceremony. After this the countdown to the Paris Olympics 2024 began. With this, the athletes will also start preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games. French President Emmanuel Macron also congratulated everyone for the next Olympics through video.

Bajrang Punia leads the Indian contingent

Bajrang Punia led the Indian contingent in the closing ceremony. Bajrang won bronze medal in wrestling.

America tops medals tally

In the ceremony, all the athletes also gave the message of ‘Strong Together’ to the people. A total of 340 gold medals, 338 silver and 402 bronze players won in different events. In the Tokyo Olympics 2020, America won a total of 113 medals including 39 gold, 41 silver and 33 bronze. While China won a total of 88 medals including 38 gold, 32 silver and 18 bronze.
