Sri Lanka upsets England by 20 runs in ICC World Cup 2019

In the 27th match of the World Cup, Sri Lanka defeated England and made a big difference in the standings. With this win, Sri Lanka became England’s nemesis team with wins in four World Cup matches. Now their next match is to be played in Durham with South Africa. Lasith Malinga, who routed England’s top order, believes that he has not done anything new, then why is he being called a legend? Malinga says that this win has boosted the confidence of the team and now they would like to retain it.

Defending a small total of 232 the Sri Lankan pace spearhead took 4 wickets for just 43 runs in 10 overs. It also included a Maiden over. Sri Lanka kept the hopes of making the semi-finals by defeating England by 20 runs.

In this exciting encounter at Headingley, if England had won the match, then it would have reached the top of the table with 10 points. But after losing 14 runs against Pakistan, the team had to face another defeat in the group stage and now sits in the third place.

After his amazing performance, Malinga, became the fourth bowler after Glenn McGrath, Muralitharan and Wasim Akram to take 50 wickets in the World Cup. The 35-year-old Sri Lankan bowler is known for his unorthodox sling action. Malinga had made a big blow to England on Friday when he bowled a great delivery to send England opener Johnny Bairstow back to the pavilion without opening his account.
