Proposed ropeway at Kedarnath could be among world’s longest
In the coming time, devotees will be able to reach Kedarnath Dham and Hemkund Sahib in minutes. Both these places will be connected by ropeway service. For which a budget of two thousand crores has been released. NHAI’s agency National Highway Logistics Management Limited has prepared the DPRs of both the ropeways. Now the process is going on with the Center for forest land transfer. Apart from this, NHAI has started survey work for five more ropeways.
On Monday, the 22nd board meeting of Uttarakhand Tourism Development Council was held under the chairmanship of Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj. In which many proposals got green signal. According to Secretary Tourism Dilip Jawalkar, once the Kedarnath ropeway takes shape, it will be included in the world’s longest ropeway. Its length will be about 11.5 km and one can reach from Sonprayag to Kedarnath in 25 minutes.
For Kedarnath situated at an altitude of eleven and a half thousand feet above sea level, the walking distance from Gaurikund to Dham is about 16 kilometers. It was told in the meeting that the construction of Ropeway from Sonprayag to Kedarnath would be done in a budget of Rs 1200 crores and Hemkund Sahib to Govindghat ropeway would be constructed in 850 crores. Apart from this, ropeway service will also be started between Panch Koti to Bauri, Balati Band to Khalia Top, Rishikesh to Neelkanth, Auli to Gaursaun and Ranibagh to Hanuman Garh Mandir. For this survey has been started. A total budget of 55 crores was passed to conduct the activities of the council for the financial year 2022-23. Proposals to organize Paragliding, Mountain Biking, Adventure Summit, Skiing Championship, Tehri Lake Festival, Yoga Festival were also placed on the board. A provision of Rs 30 crore has been made for the promotion of tourism.
