Electricity to get costlier in Uttarakhand; check out new rates

Now consumers in Uttarakhand will have to pay more bills than before. Electricity rates have increased by 2.68 percent in the state for the financial year 2021-22. In this regard, the Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued a new tariff of electricity on Thursday.

Highlights of Electricity Retail Tariffs in Uttarakhand for the Financial Year 2022-23

  • Compiled increase proposed by all the power companies is about 10.18% and against the proposed increase of about 8.02% by UPCL, the increase in tariff was increased by about 2.68% by the Commission.
  • While re-fixing the tariff for different categories of consumers, the Commission tried to reduce the cross-subsidy across all categories.
  • The tariff for BPL consumers (about four lakh subscribers, 20 percent of total domestic consumers) and snowbound consumers was increased by 4 paise per kWh.
  • Fixed charges have not been increased for domestic category consumers consuming up to 100 units per month. The tariff has been increased by 10 paise per unit.
  • The Commission has increased the voltage rebate from 2.5% to 3.5% for consumers availing supply at 33 kV voltage level.
  • The Commission has reduced the the Peak Hour surcharge from 50% to 30%.
  • The Commission has kept the tariff of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Tariff unchanged at Rs 5.50/kWh.
  • Online Payment made digitally including bank transfers such as NEFT/RTGS/IMPS shall now be allowed a rebate of 1.25% from the earlier 0.75%.
