Martyred Major Chitresh and Major Vibhuti honored with bravery award

Uttarakhand’s Martyred Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal and Major Chitresh Bisht, who had sacrificed their lives for the motherland, have received the braveryaward honor. The two young military officers, both residents of Dehradun, were martyred in February this year. Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal has received the ‘Shaurya Chakra’ posthumously. While the Major Chitresh Bisht posthumously received the ‘Army Medal’.

Major Chitresh Bisht was martyred in IED blast in Nowshera

The martyred Major Chitresh Bisht was a resident of Old Nehru Colony of Doon. He was killed in the IED blast in Nowshera sector of Rajouri on February 16. The terrorists had an improvised exploitative device. On receiving information, the army conducted a search operation in the area. Major Chitreshh Bisht, posted in the Engineering Corps, was a master at defusing IED . But lost his life while defusing an IED on that fateful day. An army soldier was also seriously injured in this blast. Originally, the family of Major Chitresh Bisht hailed fromr Ranikhet Tehsil of Almora district. His father Surendra Singh Bisht retired from the Uttarakhand Police as an Inspector. Major Chitresh was 28 years old at the time of martyrdom. He passed out in 2010 after completing military training from the Indian Military Academy. Major Chitresh’s martyrdom came at a time when wedding preparations were going on at his house. Major Chitresh was to be married on March 7. Wedding cards were also distributed.

Major Vibhuti was killed in a terrorist encounter in Pulwama

Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal was a resident of Neshvilla Road (Dangwal Marg) in Dehradun. He was killed in a terrorist attack in Pulwama on February 18. On February 14, militants attacked a CRPF contingent in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. Three days later, there was an encounter between militants and security forces here. Major Vibhuti was martyred in an encounter with terrorists. Three other army soldiers were also martyred with him. Army jawans killed two of Jaish’s dreaded terrorists. Major Vibhuti, 34, was stationed in 55 RR (National Rifle) of Army. He was the only brother of three sisters.  His father Late. Omprakash was retired from Controller Defense Account. Major Dhundiyal was originally a native of Pauri district.
