Lasith Malinga becomes 1st bowler to take 4 wickets in 4 balls in T20I

Sri Lankan cricket team captain Lasith Malinga created a new history in the last match of the three match T20 series against New Zealand. Malinga took four wickets from four balls for the second time in cricket’s shortest format. It also included a hat-trick. Incidentally this Malinga had achieved this feat before in 2007 albeit in an ODI. He is the only bowler in ODI cricket who took four wickets from four balls. Now once again he has done this feat in the shortest format of cricket. The bowler nicknamed ‘Slinga’ also has the record for most number of hat-trick wickets in international cricket. This is the second time he has taken a hat-trick wicket in T20 cricket. Lasith Malinga has become the first bowler to take 100 wickets in T20 cricket.

Malinga takes four wickets in four balls

Malinga made these four New Zealand batsmen his prey. He bowled Colin Munro for 12 off the third ball of the third over of the New Zealand innings. He then dismissed Hamish Rutherford on the fourth ball LBW at zero. He took the third wicket of De Grandhomme. He clean bowled Grandhomme with his trademark yorker. He made his fourth victim, Ross Taylor. He dismissed Taylor LBW.

Malinga took hat-trick wicket for the fifth time in international cricket

Lasith Malinga took hat-trick for the fifth time in international cricket. He did this feat three times in ODIs while he repeated this feat for the second time in T20. Malinga overtook Wasim Akram in terms of taking the most hat-trick. Akram took four hat-trick wickets in international cricket.

Malinga becomes the first bowler to complete 100 wickets in T20 cricket

Lasith Malinga has now become the first bowler to complete 100 wickets in T20 cricket. No one had done this feat in the shortest format before cricket. The first bowler to take 100 wickets in ODI cricket was Dennis Lillee, while Johnny Briggs did this feat in Test. Malinga is also the only bowler to take 100 or more wickets in all three formats of the game.
