Bangladesh agrees to play Day-Night test versus India

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has agreed to play the day-night Test at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata next month. Bangladesh team coach Russell Domingo said, ‘There will be a big match against India at the Eden Gardens Stadium. This is a great opportunity. India too has not played day-night test yet. This is new for both teams and will bring both of them closer to each other. Kolkata Test will be played from 22 November.

Earlier India was not ready for the day-night test

This will be India’s first day-night Test match. Also, this will be the first day-night Test played in India. The Indian team, however, was not ready for the day-night Test match. Former captain of the Indian cricket team, Sourav Ganguly, after assuming the post of BCCI president, had convinced captain Virat Kohli to play the day-night Test. After this, the ball went to BCB’s court. The BCB accepted the proposal of the BCCI on Tuesday.

Ganguly has always advocated pink ball cricket. When he was a member of the technical committee in 2016-17, he recommended the use of pink ball in domestic cricket. Ganguly advocated a day-night match at the same time.

Ganguly is of the view that Test cricket will get more and more viewers in the day-night test. Just after the third Test match played in Ranchi with South Africa, Indian captain Kohli had expressed his displeasure over the low number of spectators. After this, Kohli had talked about the creation of five test centers in India. The Bangladeshi team is reaching India on Wednesday. It will play three T20s and two Test matches with India.

Ganguly told PTI, ‘This is a good initiative. There is a need to promote Test cricket. I and my team worked hard for this. We would also like to thank Virat (Kohli) for getting ready for this. ‘

Plan to honor Bindra, Mary Kom, Sindhu

There are plans to invite veteran Olympic medalists like Abhinav Bindra, MC Mary Kom and PV Sindhu during this test match. Ganguly wants the annual Pink Test (day-night) Test match to be held in the Eden Gardens annually in the same way that day-night Test matches are held in Australia .

Indian cricketers avoided playing Test matches day and night for a long time, but Ganguly had said that captain Virat Kohli agrees with the idea of playing day-night Test and it could be organized in the near future.
