India records fourth consecutive innings win

Indian cricket team has become the first team in the world to win a fourth consecutive Test matches by an  innings. India achieved this historic feat by defeating Bangladesh by an innings and 46 runs in the first day-night Test match played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday.

With this victory, India won the two-match Test series 2–0. India has won its seventh consecutive Test series, which is its best performance so far.

India has won the match by an innings for the fourth consecutive time. India had earlier beaten South Africa by an innings and 137 runs in Pune, by an innings and 202 runs in Ranchi and Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs in Indore.

India won 4 consecutive matches by innings

1. South Africa, Pune (2019/20) against innings and 137 runs

2. South Africa against Ranchi and 202 runs, Ranchi (2019/20)

3. Innings and 130 runs against Bangladesh, Indore (2019/20)

4. Inning and 46 runs against Bangladesh, Kolkata (2019/20)

Earlier, India had won three consecutive innings in Tests during 1992/93 and 1993/94. With this victory in Kolkata, India has broken its own 26 year old record by registering 4 consecutive wins by an innings margin.

This is the first time at home when fast bowlers have taken all the wickets in an innings in India’s victory and the spinners did not get a single wicket.

Ishant Sharma, the Indian fast bowler who took nine wickets in the match, received the ‘Man of the Match’ award. Apart from this, Ishant also received the ‘Man of the Series’ award.

This is the 12th consecutive series win at home by Team India. This is Virat Kohli’s 33rd overall and seventh consecutive Test victory as captain. With this, Kohli has surpassed the record of former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to win six consecutive Test matches.

This is India’s seventh consecutive win in seven matches since the start of the ICC World Test Championship. India now has 360 points in the championship table and is firmly on top. Australia’s team is at number two with 116 points. The remaining teams could not even score 100 points.
