Maria Sharapova withdraws from French Open due to shoulder injury

Maria Sharapova the former World No. 1 from Russia withdrew her name from the French Open tennis tournament due to a shoulder injury. Five-time Grand Slam winner Sharapova has not played a single game since January this year. In February, she had a small operation. She was unable to play in the Italian Open tennis tournament this month due to injury.

Two-time Roland Garros-champion Sharapova told on Instagram that she is not going to participate in the French Open tennis tournament starting May 26.
She wrote on Instagram, “Today I am withdrawing my name from the French Open. Sometimes it is not easy to make the right decision. The good thing is that I have returned to the court for practice and gradually getting the strength of my shoulder. I will miss Paris a lot. ‘

Sharapova, who won the French Open title in 2012 and 2014, returned to the court in April 2017 after serving a 15-month ban on drug use. In the quarterfinals of the French Open last year, she had to face defeat by third seed Spain’s Garbine Muguruza 2-6, 1-6.
