Patients tensed as 1800 doctors in AIIMS go on strike

Resident doctors of Delhi-based AIIMS are on strike today. They alleged that a senior doctor slapped a fellow doctor in front of patients and other staff, but no action was taken against them. The resident doctors’ strike has affected all the services except the Emergency and the ICU. Patients are troubled. Meanwhile, the administration has constituted a committee to investigate the matter. It is being told that 1800 resident doctors are involved in the strike. Due to this, the services of OPD were most affected.

Resident doctors are demanding that till the accused doctor Atul Kumar resigns, they will not return to work. They are also demanding that the concerned doctor apologize in writing. This senior doctor is the head of the department in this institute. The patients are facing problems due to this indefinite strike of doctors.
Resident Doctors Association president Harjeet Singh Bhati alleged that the AIIMS administration has abused a doctor. It is alleged that Professor Atul Kumar raised hand on a resident doctor, after which the resident doctor continued protest in AIIMS on Thursday and continued to demand apology by the professor. This sequence continued on Friday also.

The Resident Doctors Association announced the strike on Thursday evening. Doctors are demanding that Prof.  to be removed from the post of Chief at Dr. R.P Center. They says that till the no action is taken, resident doctors will be on indefinite strike.
Due to the ongoing strike in AIIMS, patients are facing a lot of trouble. When people came to AIIMS for treatment from far and wide, they got disappointment. People say that the problem is so much that nobody is willing to listen, nothing is known whether the treatment will be done or not.

A 6-month old boy, had to undergo an eye surgery was left waiting due to the strike. Other doctors say that the problem of getting patients is that till the doctor Atul Kumar gets removed, the strike will continue.
