Air pollution level rises again in NCR

Delhi-NCR’s air turned toxic again on Monday after a fortnight due to worsening weather conditions. Greater Noida and Delhi recorded an air quality index above 400, while Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurugram and Faridabad’s index ranged from very poor to high. The forecast of the journey is that there is no possibility of change in the situation for the next three days. The air quality of Delhi-NCR will remain in the very poor to severe category. There is also a possibility that the pollutants together with the dense fog of Delhi-NCR may form a thick sheet of smog.

According to the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), the pollution of Delhi-NCR is localized at this time. This is because of adverse weather conditions. The northwesterly winds blowing in the region remained slow on Monday. Along with this, the ventilation index was also below average. Due to the combined effect, the pollutants of Delhi-NCR could not go far. Due to stagnation in this area, the wind reached very poor to severe level.

CPCB data shows that Greater Noida remained the most polluted city in Delhi-NCR on Monday. Its index was recorded at 442. The index of Delhi also stood at 410 in the severe level. On the other hand, the pollution level of other cities of NCR remained above 375. SAFAR forecasts that no major change is expected in the situation for the next three days. The pollution level in Delhi-NCR will remain at the borderline of very poor to severe level. Agencies working on air pollution say that during this time Delhi-NCR is also going through a period of dense fog. Due to the dense level of pollution for a long time, there is also a possibility of its turning into smog. This will make the air suffocating.

The air quality was severe even a fortnight ago

Earlier on December 4, Delhi’s air quality had gone into the severe category. The index had peaked at 407. After this, there was a reduction in the pollution level due to improvement in weather conditions. On December 14, the air quality index had reached 163. After this again the pollution level became dense and on Monday the index went above 400.
