Devdutt Padikkal shines for RCB on debut

The Royal Challengers Bangalore team, hoping to make a comeback in the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), made a strong start against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the first match. The young cricketer, who was responsible for this, was making his debut with this match on the world’s most glamorous cricket platform. This cricketer is Devdutt Padikkal, who not only gave a strong start to RCB by putting a brisk fifty in his first match but also made many records.

Became the first Indian to make 50 on debut in IPL after 10 years

Devdutt Padikkal batted strongly and played an innings of 56 runs in 42 balls. In this, he hit 8 fours and shared a 90-run partnership in 11 overs for the first wicket with Aaron Finch. With this, Devdutt became the first Indian batsman in 10 years to a Fifty in his IPL debut. Before him, the last Indian batsman to do this feat in IPL was Kedar Jadhav, who did it in in IPL-2010. Not only this, Devdutt is just second batsman of RCB who has achieved this feat in IPL. Before him, Srivats Goswami, made this record for RCB in IPL-2008.

19 batsmen have made their half-century debut in IPL

In the IPL, Devdutt has become the 19th batsman and 8th Indian batsman to make a fifty in a total debut match. So far in the IPL in 2008, Gautam Gambhir, Brandon McCullum, Mike Hussey, Hopes, Kumar Sangakkara, Shikhar Dhawan, Graeme Smith, Asnodkar, Shaun Marsh, Vidyut, Srivats Goswami made their debut with Fifty. After this record was made by David Warner in IPL-2009. Apart from Kedar Jadhav, Owais Shah, Ambati Rayudu and Paul Collingwood also made debut fifty in IPL 2010. Levi made this record in IPL-2012, the last time in IPL-2016, this record was done by Sam Billings.

50 in every debut match for Devdutt

Devdutt not only made his debut in the IPL with Fifty, but he has set a unique record of similar performance in his debut match in every level of cricket. Devdutt made his first-class cricket debut in 2018, scoring 7 and 77 in a Ranji Trophy match against Maharashtra. In 2019, while scoring List-A career, he scored 58 against Jharkhand. While he played a 53-run knock against Uttarakhand’s team, when he made his T20 career debut in 2019.

Second Youngest player in IPL to score Debut Fifty

Devdutt made his debut in the IPL by applying Fifty at the age of 20 years and 76 days. He has become the second youngest batsman to do this feat in terms of age. At a young age, Srivats Goswami made his IPL-2008 debut by scoring a fifty. The age of Shreevats was then 19 years and 1 day. Shikhar Dhawan made his IPL debut at 22 years 136 days and David Warner at the age of 22 years 187 days.
