Team India clean sweeps Sri Lanka 3-0; record highest run margin win in 3rd ODI

India defeated Sri Lanka by 317 runs in the third ODI played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. This is the biggest win by runs in ODI history. Earlier this record was in the name of New Zealand. They beat Ireland by 290 runs in 2008. At the same time, the previous record of the Indian team was a 257-run win, which they achieved against Bermuda in 2007.

Batting first after winning the toss, India scored 390 runs in 50 overs losing five wickets. Shubman Gill scored 116 runs and Virat Kohli played an unbeaten inning of 166 runs. In reply, the Sri Lankan team scored 73 runs in 22 overs. Ashen Bandara could not come on the field due to injury. In this way Team India won by 317 runs. For India, Mohammad Siraj took the maximum four wickets and ran out one player. Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav got two wickets each.

India also made a clean sweep of Sri Lanka 3-0. For the fourth time, Team India has made a clean sweep of Sri Lanka in the ODI series. India won the first ODI by 67 runs and the second ODI by four wickets.

This is the second highest score of Kohli’s career. Earlier, Kohli had scored an inning of 183 runs. Indian team’s star batsman Virat Kohli left behind Sri Lankan veteran Mahela Jayawardene in terms of scoring runs. Kohli had scored 12588 runs in 267 ODIs before this match. Playing an innings of 63 runs, Kohli overtook Jayawardene’s 12650 runs. Kohli now has 12754 runs in 259 innings of 268 ODIs. This was also his 46th ODI ton and he is just 3 behind Sachin’s record of 49 ODI centuries.
