Heavy rain alert issued for Uttarakhand on May 20

After Goa, Mumbai, the impact of the Tauktae storm along the coasts of Gujarat was also seen in the north and east. As a result, rains continued in most parts of Uttarakhand throughout the day. The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in nine districts of the state on Thursday. According to the meteorological forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Almora, Nainital, Champawat, Udhamsinghnagar, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh on May 20. In some places of the state, there is also a possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and intense showers. Somewhere in the plains, winds can move at a speed of 30 to 40 kilometers. The administration and people have been asked to be alert for landslides in sensitive areas, rock fall, road blocking, sudden flow of river-drains in the mountains and waterlogging in low-lying areas.

According to Meteorological Department scientist Rohit Thapliyal, there would be rainfall in many places of the state on 21 May as well. Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Almora, Champawat, Nainital districts are prone to lightening thunderstorms. The process of rain may continue even after 22 and 23 May. After wreaking havoc in the seaside areas, the Tauktae storm moved towards northeast and affected Himachal, Jammu and Uttarakhand as well. On Wednesday, several other towns including Tapovan, Garuda, Mussoorie, Bhagwanpur, Dhanori, Gangolihat, New Tehri, Lansdowne, Nainital, Pauri, Rishikesh, Thalisain, Jakholi received good rains. Due to rain, the temperature of these places has also declined.

According to the Meteorological Department, the cyclonic storm moving through Saurashtra is moving towards the northeast and during the last six hours it has moved at a speed of 11 kilometers per hour. However, the Taukate storm is expected become weaker moving north-east.
