Federer overcomes Nadal to setup Djokovic final showdown at Wimbledon

Swiss maestro Roger Federer has entered Wimbledon men’s title for a record 12th time. He beat Rafael Nadal 7-6 (7-3), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, who was considered the most tough opponent for Federer in the semi-final played on Friday. The former world number 1, has reached the 12th time in the finals of the third Grand Slam of the year. Title matches will be played between him and Novak Djokovic, the current world number and last years defending champion.

Federer won this tough fight against his Spanish nemesis after a long struggle of 3 hours and 2 minutes. He made took the first set 7-6 in a tie-beak, while Nadal bamboozled Federer in the second set and took the set 6-1 winning 20 out of 23 points at one time. After this Federer regrouoed and won two consecutive sets 6-3 and 6-4 to win the dream semi-final. Federer has won the tournament 8 times, while being runner-up 3 times.

Except for the slip-up in the second set, Federer played near flawless tennis to defeat his arch rival Nadal. This was the 40th meeting between the duo and second a month after their encounter  at the French Open.

Djokovic reaches Wimbledon final for the sixth time

On the other hand, Novak Djokovic, the current Wimbledon winner and world number 1 men’s tennis player from Serbia, on Friday, won his semi-final against Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut to reach the finals for the sixth time in this tournament. Djokovic defeated the Spanish player 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the first semi-finals played at the Center Court in a two-hour 48-minute match. Djokovic has played the final five times in the year before-2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018, in which he was defeated only once in 2013.

After the match, Djokovic said, “I had to work hard. It was semi-final and Bautista was playing his first Grand Slam semi-final. He was quite happy. He played brilliantly. He maintained patience in the first set, but later he started playing better. I was a bit trapped. The first four and five games of the third set were pretty close. There the match could go anywhere. I’m glad he came to me. ‘
