Congress appoints Rajeev Mehrishi as media committee head in Uttarakhand

The Congress think-tank has recently made changes in the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee, and due to this, politician Rajeev Mehrishi has been appointed as the media in-charge of the Congress Party in Uttarakhand. The party is looking to regain power in the hill state after losing it to BJP in the previous elections.

On being appointed as the media in-charge, he said, “I am extremely happy to take charge as the media in-charge of the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Party. In view of my assigned role, it is my aim to diligently handle the media relations of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee.”

He has had a long term association with the Congress. Rajeev Mehrishi started his political career in 1979 while studying at DAV College. Thereafter he joined NSUI, the student union of Congress and worked as General Secretary, Garhwal. After that he became working member of Uttar Pradesh Youth Congress. He officially joined the Congress party in 1989. He took over as the Senior Election Coordinator during the elections in 1991.

In 2007, Rajeev Mehrishi was elected as the spokesperson of the Congress. He was then appointed as the President of the Congress Media Committee in 2016.

As per his ideologies, he does not consider himself to be the leader of the party but an active party worker. Congress has not only made changes in its team in Uttarakhand, but also in Punjab and Manipur where like Uttarakhand elections are due next year.
